Description

Heavy iron domestic knitting machine which clamps to a table. A wooden handle is used to crank the mechanism and the upper cylinder is inset with a circle of greased needles. Accessories (which are listed separately) include circle of needles, spare needles in a tin, additional clamps and a weight to hold down the knitting as it is formed. The machine was probably used in a domestic context to produce knitting in the round for stockings, hats, ganseys and other clothing. There is also a booklet of instructions and pattterns
